Why do authoritarian leaders close down legislatures?
In order to tackle this question, the project brings together a network of early-career political science researchers studying parliaments in non-democracies in different regions of the world. The aim is to gain cross-regional insights and pool information for joint analysis.
The project team members will meet in London on 18-19 December 2019 for a workshop, during which they will present analyses of moments of closure in different regions of the world. They will also discuss these moments with other country and region experts from academic and policy communities.
In February 2020, initial findings will be presented at a public engagement event at University College London.
